FINAL PIECE
Final Piece Proposal
For my final piece in my Identity project, I want to combine aspects of all the artists that I looked at in a physical, hopefully exciting display in the style of Angela Glajcar.
My plan is to take seven sheets of A3 paper, and paint some in different colours to mimic the more colourful work of Pablo Thecuadro. I will then use a scalpel to cut holes in the sheets of paper, like Draxler and Thecuadro as opposed to the torn sides in Glajcar’s work. Finally, I will hang them up with string taped to the back and project images onto them like I did with my AO4 developments for Glajcar. At the moment, my intention is to project previous edits from Draxler’s and Thecuadro’s work, though if this doesn’t have the desired effect, I may just use the same images that I projected in my AO4 for Glajcar.
My aim for the piece is to create a work that summarises the different takes on human identity explored by Draxler and Thecuadro in an instalment reminiscent of and thus deepened in meaning by Glajcar’s work. I would like it to serve as a ‘climactic’ end to my Identity project, and thus I feel like it should encapsulate as many aspects of my work thus far as possible.

Process
To begin with, I decided to paint three of seven pages in different colours, in order to create a similar effect to that of Pablo Thecuadro. The first I painted red, the second an admittedly very red orange, and the third a yellow (I also painted a blue, which I did not end up using. To paint them I used acrylic paint, and managed to paint all four within about two hours.

For the next stage in the process, I had to create holes in the pages like Glajcar’s work, but I decided that instead of tearing, I would use a scalpel like I did with previous artists, and create a cleaner cut. I still had them at varying degrees of size, so they would create a sense of depth when layered upon one another. I decided upon the order white/yellow/white/orange/white/red/white. I then began preparations to hang them.

When I began to hang them, I taped string to one side, hung it over the big pole above, and then taped it to the other side. I used string as opposed to fishing wire again, simply because there was no point in using a less easily available thing for no real ultimate difference.

I then set up the projector in order to display the images, which took more planning than I first supposed, due to the necessary orientation, but I eventually was successful.

Final Piece

On the whole, I am very pleased with this final piece as a culmination of my work in this project so far. I have throughly enjoyed working with each of the artists that I have looked at (though my Jesse Draxler edits are, I think, my favourite), and I feel as though this piece truly demonstrates different aspects of all artists. My process pretty much demonstrates the way in which I made this, so I won't go into that any further, but if I were to do it again I would put more focus into photographing the final result, and perhaps maybe even attempt an A2 installation, though that may be a little hard to accomplish.
I feel as though throughout the Identity project I have developed many skills, and I do look forward to applying those when looking at Fantastic and Strange again.
