IDENTITY

“Nothing of me is original. I am the combined effort of everyone I've ever known.”
Identity is such a broad word and has grown in its meaning in recent years. While it can relate to physical appearance, it can also be used when talking about gender, culture, places, social media. It seems difficult to pinpoint the sub-categories, and choose which area seems most interesting to work with, so I created a mind map and mood board to collect and gather my initial thoughts and inspiration when hearing this word.
mind map:

This is a mind map to cultivate some ideas and words that I think of when I see the word 'identity'. This topic is complex and there are many sub-categories that interest me, such as hidden identity, cultural identity and digital identity. I think it will be interesting to portray some of these emotions or words, whether they are positive or negative, throughout my work and I will reference back to this as when developing my shoot to portray this in my images.
mood board:

This mind map is a reflection of the words in my mind map as well as showing the work of the artists that we had to choose from. This includes identity of places and gender, cultural, hidden, digital and conceptual identity. A recurring theme is portrait style images that focus on specific features depending on the theme of identity. I will use this as inspiration to incorporate into my work and choosing which artists to study.
