IDENTITY

Mind map & Mood board

The first step in exploring the topic of Identity, was to create a mind map and mood board. These were critical in helping me investigate the theme, and organise my ideas in a visual manner - I can return to these ideas later. Initially, I created a mind map; for this, I thought of different concepts and definitions surrounding the notion of identity, and noted down my train of thought, to create a 'map' of ideas, which I can return to later and develop further or explore in my images. I then created a mood board: a collage of images relating to the words on my mind map, enabling me to visualise my ideas better, and construct a source of inspiration for my later work.

Initial ideas

Having created my mind map and mood board, I could better visualise and organise my ideas; this helped me realise the concepts I wish to explore in my work. Specifically, I would like to investigate the impact of objects, spaces and places on a person's identity, and how these factors can represent a person's identity. The variety of items and concepts that are similar but different among people (e.g. bags, lipstick, names, homes), demonstrate the uniqueness of each individual, and how their character is different from others.  I also hope to create 3D visualisations and constructions of my images, creating a more solid, tangible element to my work.
