Welcome to my Exploration Page!
Here you will find a collection of mini-edits I did to further my exploration of physically manipulating paper to distort faces based on the topic of Hidden Identity. To conduct this experimentation, I made a mini cardboard booklet into which I put all of the work.
Weaving
The first piece of exploration I did was some weaving. I chose two contrasting colours (green and red) and wove the two photographs together.
Projection
As a bit of extra experimentation I experimented with projecting my nets from my final piece onto a face. Here I had one of my friends sit against a wall facing straight on so that the line of symmetry of the nets would fall in the centre of her face.
These are the cropped versions. As a whole I think these photographs were a really interesting thing to explore. I was pleased with the ones that felt especially symmetrical, as I think they tie in quite nicely to Tolino's use of geometry, but I also like the photographs that have two different colours on either side of the face. I just think these photographs came out really striking, and it was fun to find a way to include projection into my identity project too. If I were to take this further, I think I would try to make the projector more stable this time, as since it wasn't quite the correct height I had to prop it up slightly which led to it being slightly crooked. However, I do think this is a good bit of exploration and I'm pleased with the fact that the result mirrors what I had pictured in my head.
